Confidentiality and Privacy

I am very careful about protecting patient confidentiality. I will not share ANY information with your insurance company, employer, family colleagues, friends without expressed, explicit written permission to do so. Confidentiality is an essential part of the therapeutic relationship that is necessary to create trust and a safe place.

There are laws that protect the relationship between and client and a psychotherapist so that informations cannot be disclosed without written permission.

Exceptions include:

  • Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse, I am required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.

  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person, I must notify the police and the intended victim.

  • If a client intends to harm him or herself. I will make every effort to enlist their cooperation, including their family's or close friend's help, but if the client's safety is still in jeopardy, then I will take further measures without their permission that are mandated to me by law to ensure their safety.
